Foundation origin

The College of Science, which was founded on the basis of the original College of Letters and Science in 1994, is now composed of three departments (including the graduate institutes): Department of Mathematical Sciences, Department of Psychology, and Department of Computer Science. Both the Department of Mathematical Sciences and the Department of Computer Science offer in-service courses.

Instructional features

Our research and instruction emphasize the integration of theory and practice with the former as the substance and the later as the purpose, and we make continuous a effort in the instructional planning and studies for a better curriculum and equipment to keep up with the international academic development and meet the domestic demands for specialized professionals. The College endeavours to foster academic and practical professionals with a solid foundation of mathematics and sciences as well as achieve accomplishments in humanity to meet the national and social demands in the hope that they will put into full play their specialized knowledge and skills and become the mainstays of the society.

Development directions

At the current stage, the prime tasks of the college include:

1. To step up the faculty exchange and cooperation between the departments of the college.
2. To promote large scale interdisciplinary academic research projects.
3. To push forward the academic research cooperation and resource exchange with other domestic or foreign universities.
4. To open general education courses according to the needs of the students of the NCCU.
5. To expand the faculty and upgrade the library’s books and equipment. 6. To set up the Mind, Brain and Learning Research Centre at the university level in order to integrate information concerning neural science, psychology, pedagogy, information science and ecology, and promote large scale research projects.
7. To continue push forward the digital information development project.

Prospects and plans

The future expansion and plans of the College are as follows:

1. To promote and plan for the foundation of the Library of the College of Science.
2. To promote foundation of the Graduate Institute of Applied Physics, Graduate Institute of Life Science, Graduate Institute of Communication and Network Operation, Department of Physics, Department of Life Science, etc.
