National Chengchi University’s (NCCU) Sara Wu (吳思璇), a sophomore from the Department of Diplomacy, Jenny Pan (潘冠樺), a junior from the Department of Economics and Stacey Shih (史佳欣), a graduate from the Digital Content & Technologies, won the first prize of an advertisement art design contest on Oct. 2.
The contest, featuring “Solve and Create,” was a cross-campus event and was joined by students from NCCU, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (Taiwan Tech) and National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU). Creative marketing strategies, innovative service and practical solution were the rules for judges to decide the winners.
Wu said that their program, “Street Life” (皆生), was designed and expected to provide housing for the homeless with the mode of social enterprise. They would rent an apartment for the homeless and open a coffee shop on its first floor where consumers can chat with the homeless to know more about their stories. The rent, part of which is from the homeless, would be supplemented by the revenue from the coffee shop. In this way, this victorious team expected to achieve the goal of symbiosis: the homeless and the coffee shop thrive by relying on each other.
“Because of our members’ different expertise, we can finally make this program, which includes an eye-catching logo, exquisite illustrations in the presentation slides and accurate evaluation of the budget,” Wu said.
The contest provided opportunities for students from different disciplines to exchange ideas. A senior student from the Department of Mechanical and Engineering in Taiwan Tech, Andrew Wang (王又正), said he learned to see the commercial program from other respects in the process of discussion. Wang said that he used to focus on the product itself but his teammates, who were from NCCU and NTNU, provided suggestion from the aspects of marketing strategies and the product design respectively and inspired him.
The organizer of this commercial contest, Liu Ji-hsuan (劉吉軒), the director of the Center for Creativity and Innovation in NCCU said that he expected students from different colleges could exchange ideas and gained inspiration from other disciplines. Also, the contest was only the beginning because Liu expected students could put their ideas gained from this contest into action. He also mentioned there were many resources in NCCU for students. For example, some alumni who had the experience of establishing stat-up provide the service of counsel.
